Why spend tons on a coffee roaster?

I’ve been watching videos on coffee roasting to provide more information to our readers and future BiolleyBuzz coffee bean consumers! We are going to sell our beans direct from the poor farmer to you. No middlemen, no green bean distributors, no “charitable” foundations who sell coffee.  “Fair trade” and “charitable” organizations have too many hands in the coffee pot,  so to speak. The poor farmer is better off   growing organic and  finding a market to purchase their beans.  Easier said than done! Most farmers are dependent on selling their beans with several other farmers to the processing plant or to green bean buyers in the US who sell other beans from competitive farmers elsewhere. Too much competition and very little profit for the poor farmer.  Now that we are producers in the poor farming community of Biolley, we intend to help our community of farmers by bringing the  individual buyer from the US market direct to the poor farmer and providing a great selection of cultivated coffee beans that are organic and bird friendly.  This is a major step in one of the many endeavors we feel privileged to be involved in.

I first learned about air poppers for popcorn and roasting coffee from a couple of  friends  who are coffee connoisseurs. I was amazed at the simplicity of this process! Everyone can roast their own coffee and I suggest you do! Purchase raw beans DIRECT from the farmer if you can.  It makes all the difference in the world to the farmer and it will make a difference to you in your cup each morning! Not only will the coffee taste great, but you will know you are helping the poor farmer to survive. I am telling you, roasting your own coffee is second to none for taste and pleasure! Nothing like it! You can become your own coffee connoisseur for very little money. It just takes a little practice. Why pay tons of money for beans, roasting equipment and more? It’s a hype and it is not necessary! Purchase a $16 air popper and get over the la-T-da of designer coffee roasters.  Simple is better! Simple is beautiful! Check out this video from pabbanana:

Top five points and other tips to consider:

1.  Roast your coffee once a week for a week’s supply instead of roasting daily. He makes a great point in the video, that you should let your roasted beans sit for a few days in an airtight jar.

2. NEVER put your beans in the fridge or freezer! It’s bad for flavor and freshness!

3.  ALWAYS roast outside or in the garage! Be sure you have everything laid out and ready to go to complete the roasting process.

4. Purchase DIRECT from the farmer who has only a  little field of coffee. Not from the large producers, middlemen etc.  We will provide this opportunity to purchase direct  in our part of the world very soon!

5. When it’s time to grind your coffee remember this:

√ Coarsely ground coffee makes a more mild cup of coffee.

√ Finely ground coffee makes a stronger cup of coffee.

Slow brewing or slow drip coffee is best.  You do NOT need to purchase expensive equipment for this!

That’s it! Everyone can become a coffee connoisseur for very little money and enjoy their gourmet coffee through the roasting and brewing process!

Yeah, I think that people tend to forget for example the Colombians have been roasting their coffee on an open fire pit, in a big pan with a stick for a long, long, time. Rudimentary methods sometimes get dropped or forgotten along the way. Back to the basics I say, it’s the kind of world we live in these days! The more back to the basics you are the better off you’ll be!

  3. Wow! I can’t wait to try this!

  4. Awesome post – I was thinking about an article on a related subject that I need to take a shot at, but from a slightly different angle. Thanks for sharing this with people…Obviously a lot of people appreciate it too!
